Thought provoking

I very much enjoyed Carter Heyward's book Staying Power. I was surprised to note that it was a collection of essays or sermons rather than a "one-themed" book. However many of her ideas are thought provoking and necessary in a time that still tries to deny the dominance of patriarchy. I did not enjoy her last essay as much as the rest of the book and I cannot say that I agree with everything she wrote. Still, her explanations of mutuality, blessing and the sacred enriched me.

Powerful and Prophetic

Carter Heyward's work is a balm of wisdom for anyone hurt or disoriented by the hateful rhetoric of the religious right. In "Staying Power" Heyward provides an example of spirit connected to the realities of living, hardships and sacred over-comings. Through it all there is a sense of calm reassuring groundedness in our connectedness. It is wonderfully nourishing to the soul.
