Best book for Probability

I am a person who is scared of probability. I have spent lots of time reading different books and trying to understand the concept. First time in my life (in my 40's) i understood the concept. ofcourse, i cannot take away the credit for statistics. this book is phenomenal in teaching us statistics. Thank you very much Jaisingh

Don't take statistics without it.

I took a statistics correspondence course for credit. The study guide made no sense to me. I finally got online and found this book. I was hesitant, because like the computer instructions you get, Statistic instructors think they are dummying it down for us but are only dummying it down for them. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the quesions at the end. You are able to apply the knowledge immediately and get feedback. I received an A in the course, and not from the expensive study guide that I bought that was supposed to help me pass. Any average person who is required to take statistics should get this book. If it helped me, it will help anyone. Thanks Dr. Jaisingh

Utterly amazing

This book is GREAT! I've been teaching statistics to students who have little interest in statistics. In fact, most of them are math phobic. Students who use STATISTICS FOR THE UTTERLY CONFUSED to supplement their learning just love it. Jaisingh has a wonderfully creative mind. He reduces complex concepts to the most fundamental meaning. From that point, phobic students begin to understand the applications of statistics to their profession. Most importantly, they experience success and become less math phobic. One particularly section of his book stands out -- z-score transformation. Understanding z-score transformation is a problem for many of my students. After class lectures and reading Jaisingh's elaboration of these concepts, students gain insight. Mose importantly than z-score transformation, students advance their knowledge regarding the relevance of normal distributions. This is a worthy book for any math phobic student who is enrolled in a statistics course.

Beating the statistics phobia?!

While I doubt I will ever get over my statistics phobia, and I am not sure it is truly possible to use statistics painlessly, I am willing to concede that "Statistics for the Utterly Confused" has helped me more than any of the other references I purchased. The material is laid out clearly and concisely. Oftentimes the Quick Tips have given me the information I was looking for without having to read through pages and pages of explanation I already have or do not need in the first place. This book is not intended for those who aspire to be staticians. But for an MBA student such as myself, it is a great supplement to text and classroom work.

Statistics for the Utterly Confused

I am a student at Morehead State University and Business Statistics is one of the most difficult classes in my course requirements until I discovered the book, Statistics for the Utterly Confused. The layout of the book was very thorough and easy to read. I truly appreciated the examples given throughout each chapter. The 'quick tips' and 'its a wrap' sections of the book helped me make sure that I understood the key points that were discussed! I would advise anyone who is having a difficult time with statistics to definitely purchase this book. It was a great investment that helped out tremendously!

Piece a cake

L. Jaisingh,I like the step by step procedures with which you take (me) the utterly confused through the various stages to arrive at the final solution to your sample problems. The simplicity and the use of your language is very effective - speaks a lot -- on clarity alone I give you 100 points. Wonderful presentation and layout, I especially like the Tree diagram - GG GB BB BG; man you even included a section with "ANSWER KEY". I also like the tables in the Appendix - saves the student a lot of time in those calculationsAnd I don't even have to conduct a GOODNESS OF FIT TEST - This pass the test with flying colors. Great job, I must commend you on such a useful publication. I would recommend this book to any person who is a student in the field of statistics. It's easy to use and a great reference tool for both at home and at the office. I will definitely put this book to extensive use.Going through your book reminded me of so many things I had forgotten since my statistics class. Of course, I just glanced through the book quickly so that I can give you my VERDICT. Lloyd, congratulations on a job well done, but then you already knew that.
