So boring I quit reading it

Most overrated book I have ever tried to read. I quit reading just under a third of the way through. I kept trying to keep reading and would just put the book down in disgust. The characters were so boring and I felt nothing for them and didn't care what happened to them. Some of the minor characters are simply referred to by their position in the symphony such as first violin or third cello or whatever. I couldn't even remember if they were male or female. Nameless, faceless, generic human characters. The plot jumps back and forth in time way too much, there's very little continuity and it gets confusing about what time you're reading which parts in. And there are just too many characters. I feel awful for the kids who are forced to read this book for school. Oh, and I found this book by doing an internet search for good sci fi books. I didn't read anything about the plot of the book before reading it because I like to be surprised and go in with an open mind. I saw it was being called a sci fi book and it was written by a woman and was getting good reviews and high praise. From the title I figured it was a book about a space station or at least set in the future or on another planet...nope nope nope. This book barely qualifies as sci fi. It's a stretch to call it sci fi at all.

I bought this because of the show

I loved the show! And then I got the book because I was desperate for more and thank God the book was different, same characters different vibe and a little pretentious sometimes but absolutely worth the read!!

Spectacular

Loved this book. Appreciated how the backdrop of the story was the aftermath of an apocalypse, but the story hinges from its own drama and the plot doesn’t surround the apocalypse, it’s merely set after it.

Pandemic Reading

Well written, fast-paced narrative. Story follows several characters just before and in the years after a global pandemic. I really enjoyed it. Only complaint, I didn't want it to end. The post pandemic world was strange and fascinating. There is a TV show adaptation coming to HBO Max in Dec. 2021. Interested to see if it is as good as the book.

Great Buy

You honestly can't tell this didn't come straight off the shelf of a bookstore at cover price. Shopping thrifrbooks is amazing.

A really beautiful story.

A really beautiful story that explores interpersonal connections and the meaning of art in the post-apocalyptic world. Unlike many apocalyptic stories, this one really focuses on the human connections and the coincidences that connect us all together. The perspective of the book changes multiple times which is really enjoyable as you get to see all the parts come together. After finishing the book I found myself thinking about the different and often insignificant ways we all impact other peoples lives and others impact our own. I highly recommend!

A beautiful story of tiny connections and the end of the world

Station Eleven is one of my favorite books. It's set in a post-apocalyptic future, while ignoring most stereotypes of the setting. The characters are wonderful, and the story is touching. Written in a unique style of jumping between characters and time points, this book gives every perspective. By the beautiful end you know that we're all connected even if it's in a seemingly insignificant way.
