Murderous Novel A Historic Novelty

I read this novel when i was in Grade school. I had the opportunity to meet the author and was blown away by the fact that something this horrible could have happened so close to my home. I was born and raised in Ottawa, Illinois and had been to the cavern where the bodies were found on numerous occasions. I loved the historic accuracy of this novel and am wondering if the real killer was really caught. The man who had been arrested for the crime is now wanting to do a DNA test in order to prove his innocence. However the accounts that were described in the novel were accurate to the time.

...

My ecology class took a trip to Starved Rock and my teacher took us down into the canyon that the murders took place and gave us the story of it. What the book did not mention was a little fact but nothing too major, after the murders happen, the killer ingraved his name on the sandstone and it read "ROCKEY" in huge letters, just a little tidbit of it.

Local murders would make a great film

As a child growing up in Joliet in the 1950's, every summer we heard stories of wild dogs, strange night sightings, etc. One of the scariest stories was that of the triple murder of Chicago socialites in the caves of Starved Rock State Park. So pervasice was the fear stemming from the then-unsolved murder, that attendance at the park fell off for years. When I first read this book, it was like reliving a time of my youth. it is written in a very visual style, almost as one would read a film scenario/overview. I wish Spielberg or Coppola would read this and film it. It has great potential. The moment when the sheriff sits in his car unraveling the various samples of cord used in the hotel, and matches one with that used by the killer to tie the victims; or he killer mentioning a fear that a white and red plane flying overhead might have spotted him, andthe sheriff finding such a plane in a nearby airport.... These elements were very dramatic. Some day??????

The best book in the world

I meet Steve Stout and it is cool how he wrote the book and how he started. My life has changed after reading this book. Now I want to go to Starved Rock to see where it happen and ask the people there if they have any information on it. I am telling you to read this book. IT IS COOL!!!!
