"I have never reviewed a book I enjoyed as much as this one. Excellent coverage, perfect for the intended audience. Concise, clear, accurate descriptions. This is a winner." Ken Getz, MCW... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is the book I have been looking for. I am currently about a third of the way through this book. If you are a beginner with VS2005 (VB2005) this is the book for you. Keep in mind, Some prior vb6 experience won't hurt. Descriptive explanations and in most cases the writer uses real world examples. the book will take you through writing an application as the title says.... "Start-To-Finish"

a very useful, and well written book; very readable and with enough detail to make it useful but still focused and organized. Little gems of code tricks are spread throughout the book. A very worthwhile book and worth the price.
Excellent Book!

I am reading Start-to-Finish Visual Basic 2005 and working through the code chapter by chapter, and I love it. I am getting up to speed on VB 2005 after programming mostly in VBA, and this book is the best dang VB 2005 book I have seen, and I have seen quite a few.... Not only is the code quite instructive, but I love Mr. Patrick's refreshing wit--it makes the project fun. Building a complete application from start to finish is a great way to learn Visual Basic 2005. Dry reference books are fine, but this book really puts it all together and makes VB 2005 come alive. Thanks, Tim, for a job well-done!
Excellent Tutorial

If you are a super newbie, then this is probably not the book for you. Tim Patrick does have some beginner's stuff at the very beginning of this book, but to learn every language concept from the ground up you would need to look elsewhere. What you are going to learn is good programming practices, and how to build a project step by step with the aid of an excellent instructor. Tim's writing style is easy to understand and the book moves quickly. So, if you are a VB developer that needs to bring your skills up to par in VS 2005, or coming from another programming language this is a good start.
Imformative and Good Reading

Start to Finish Visual Basic 2005 has been very helpful to me. I am in the process of learning VB after programming in VFP for many years. This book, along with its example of developing a complete application, is filling in all the wholes that I had in understanding the nuances of how OOP works in VB. Patrick's writing style is clear, and is written from the aspect of a developer who deals with entire development process. I would definitely recomend this book to anyone wants to get up and running with .NET!
