finally, what i've been waiting for

Finally, Mack Maloney wrote another book about the infamous Hawk Hunter. I have read the whole Wingman Series, starting in the late 80's. Before the internet I would go to see if his next book had come out yet. When the last Wingman was distributed, I thought to myself, there has to be more. I'm glad he started this new series. It is a continuation of where he left off with Wingman. I just finished reading Starhawk. I can't wait for the next one to be released. Thank You Mack Maloney for staying in the business. I'm looking forward to your future books. I've got, to my knowledge anyway, every published book you've written. Wingman series, Chopper Ops, Thunder Alley and War Heaven, and now Starhawk. Maloney's writing puts one in the place that they are reading, I can picture everything from what I read.

Starhawk the alpha and omega of WINGMAN

If you have never read of the Wingman or Hawk Hunter the intrepid aviator and warrior, you can start the exploration with this book, the latest in the series. Part of the genuine talent the author Mack Maloney puts into each of his works is an ability to pick up any one of them and start the journey. In this start, the reader is taken into a more "pure" science fiction realm, but holds excellent military action - military aviation action scenes. If you have followed the series, the other publications of Chopper Ops (An outstanding series that needs at least one more book!!) and the earlier War Heaven series you will find countless intelligent tie ins, concepts, and thought provoking enigmas that always seem to make this reader look forward to more. As a military aviator and professional warrior I enjoy these books for both the accurate, realistic and incredible fantasy aspects of the human conflict of combat of the Wingman-Starhawk-Hawk Hunter and Chopper Ops series and all of Mr Maloney's works. Starhawk promises the begining of new great series towards an unknown, but eagerly sought end. True to the series is the unending battle of good versus evil, the ultimate struggle. Strongly recommend this for newly initiated and experienced Maloney readers.

Highly enjoyable SF adventure

Somehow Hawk Hunter, the fighter-pilot hero of the long-running Wingman series, is now living in the far-flung future. (Even he doesn't know how he got there.) He's figured out a way to bring and still fly his F-16 fighter jet, though it has been souped-up and is now the fastest thing flying in the Galaxy, which is what we'd all expect from Hawk! He goes through a series of adventures, meeting friend and foe alike along the way, always searching for the reason why he is now in the year 7200AD. He befriends the daughter of the Emporer O'Nay, ruler of the vast empire that controls the Galaxy. She vows to help him find his identity, and sends him on a mission to a tiny war-ravaged moon at the edge of the Milky Way where she thinks the answer to his secret might be. This is a five-star adventure all the way and anyone who thinks author Maloney has "sold out" has missed the point entirely and should go back and re-read the book. Hawk is still the Wingman, he is still fighting for what is right, he's just doing it in another place and time!

Wow!

An amazing book. Somehow Maloney has transported the Wingman epic to the far-flung future, yet retained the good stuff that made the "old" series so cool. It's the year 7200 AD and Hunter still has his F-16 yet he flies against ultra-futuristic spacefighters belonging to a far-flung galactic empire controlled by Earth. He is looking for his true identity (still) and his only clue in this book is the American flag that he always carried in his pocket. Hunter fears that he is the last American left in the universe -- but somehow I don't think that's the case. Great action, really weird sci-fi stuff, and LOTS of good-looking ladies, some real some not. I really wish someone would make a movie of this.

Wingman #17

This continues the adventures of again-mindwiped post-apocalyptic fighter jock Hawk Hunter, this time plunking him on some Godforsaken rock in the far reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy in 7200 AD. Some of the things mentioned about Hawk's mysterious past require having read several books from the "Wingman" series, like the photo he has on him when he's initially found, and some of the sci-fi stuff that's described sounds like it's from old 1950s Buck Rogers serials, but it ultimately comes off as a shorter, far-future revision of "Wingman #14: The Sky Ghost" in that Hawk is desperately trying to figure out who he really is and where he really comes from while wowing everybody he comes across with his flying skills. The best part if the description of the Earth Race that featured on the cover, and how Hawk enters it flying what's ultimately an F-16C Fighting Falcon hand-built out of salvaged starship components.
