It's always been a favorite.

I read this book when I was in middle school. And loved it. I read it again in high school, and still loved it. For some reason, it hit it and remained with me to this day and took me forever to find it. Most reviews are correct, there isn't a whole lot to this book, and at times, Silverberg is accused of shotty or lazy or half-hearted effort. Yes and no, but to me, he was trying to do something different, a perspective on an idea that everyone was familiar with so the things he wanted to concentrate on, the surrealness and the tensions, could be more pronounced. Therefore, he didn't waste his time by going into the details that hardcore Sci-Fi is known for. While not in-depth or deeply committed to the philosophical elements to me, lyrically and wonderfully well written. It did not lack for passion and emotion, it just didn't always go deep enough to impact most people's senses. The whole idea just wasn't generated as best as he can do. It's almost like he had to write the story without really understanding how, but he knew the why but couldn't get it right on paper. It's an easy read for younger people who may not want the full immersion yet get something different and interesting. Entertainment is in the eye of the beholder, of course; but I think if you just try to read the story as it is, as a story without all the expectation that's trailing after Silverberg, you just might find yourself enjoying it.

I couldn't put this book down

Silverberg produced a weird, dreamlike feeling of surreality with this book that I found addictive. There was a cloud of doubt over everyone and everything, which kept the pages turning until the end. Highly recommend it.

My opinion of the book.

Robert Silverbrg is so able to establish a sense of wonder in us. 'Starborne' moves at a speed of light pace that is so pleasant.Throughout the book , we are towards strange new worlds and cvilisation. It is almost as if we too are aboard the ' Wotan'...

GREAT!!

The crew of the Woton is trying to find a new planet to settle on, but they come into some trouble! Join them in a mystical journey.
