True to the spirit of these characters

While this is definitely written for a younger audience, Droids: The Kalarba Adventures was cute enough to hold my interest all the way through. The quality of the writing, art, and medium used is top notch. For as cheaply as this book can be bought it is definitely a worthwhile purchase for old school Star Wars fans. I got a kick out of reading Artoo's dialog ("Vreet-twoo!") then 3po's responses ("How rude!"). Great stuff. I'll be reading Star Wars: Droids: Rebellion next.

Star Wars Droids- The Kalarba Adventures

This is a great SW book which combines both adventure and humor. Taking place between Episode III (Revenge of the Sith) and Episode IV (A New Hope), this book collects issues 1-6 of the SW Droids speacial and eight-page story from Topps SW Galaxy magazine. As a result, the chapters tell an ongoing story but they make just as much sense read seperately. Droids is good for those of you sick of watching the movies a million times. Aside from a few referances to the Alderaan system and the Imperial Navy, and of course Artoo, Threepio, and IG-88, you could hardly tell it was SW save for the cover and the introduction by Anthony Daniels. Following is a list of the chapters and what happens: Chapter One: Welcome to Kalarba-Artoo and Threepio are heading for Hosk station in orbit over Kalarba. They are captured by IG-88, the notorious assasin droid, and meet the Pitareeze family for the first time. Chapter Two: The Greed of Olag Greck-Nak betrays his grandpa and ends up bound and gagged aboard Hosk station.Olag wishes to make a bargain: Nak in exchange for the Pitareeze MT-5 hyperdrive unit! After Threepio rescues Nak, it`s a race to stop the Baron and Artoo from handing it over! Chapter Three: The Indobok Pirates-Artoo, Threepio, and Nak are kidnapped by pirates. But are they so bad after all!?And what will happen when Nak is recaptured by Olag Greck and forced to lead him to the pirates hideout!? Chapter Four: The Saga of C3-PX!-After an unsightly repair, Threepio is mistaken for a dangerous assasin droid named C3-PX who is also on Hosk station! He is captured by Olag Greck and forced to fight Artoo in the droid arena! Chapter Five: Battle of the B`rknaa-Jace Forno, Olag`s former pilot, "borrows" Artoo and Threepio to steal some priceless energy crystals from the rock monsters on planet Indobok. After the Pitareeze family comes to rescue the droids, they learn the secret of the B`rknaa. Chapter Six: Short Cut-Artoo and Threepio meet Q-E and 2-E, two bungling babysitter droids. When Artoo follows them home to the nursery, he uncovers a conspiracy with the help of Nak`s new pet, "that glued-together monstrosity." Chapter Seven: Artoo`s Day Out-While Baron Pitareeze and Threepio are busy with business negotiations, Artoo is out guarding the speeder. But what will happen when he`s gets- droidnapped!?(again) Chapter Eight: Countdown at Hosk-Disaster on Hosk Station, and all organics have fled. While Threepio has less than an hour to stop the core from exploding, Artoo, Unit Zed, and the rest of the Hosk droids must prevent Olag Greck from stealing the ash-ore shipment in Dock 7. But first they`ll have to defeat Grozbok, Olag`s behemoth of a wrecking droid! A perfect conclusion which leads up to the sequel, Rebellion. These stories, with their limited referances to the movies, remind us that SW takes place in an entire galaxy. I`ve read a lot of SW books and believe me, this is one of the best.

Great art! Good stories.

If you like the droids in the movies, you'll like these comics! (I'm a Star Wars fan so I might be partial.) As a Dad to 2 boys, 5 and 9, I read alot of comics. These are not beyond my boys' comprehension, and the kids love Artoo and Threepio!
