This is a fast-paced, exciting novel!

O.K. This was a great, fast-paced novel. The main characters are Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. There are three new characters introduced, Cray Mingla, a computer scientist who is very strong in the force. Nichos, her fiancee, who died a year ago and Cray made him into a human looking droid, and Calista, a decades old Jedi Knight, who died onboard the huge Dreadnaught, the Eye of Palpatine when trying to stop it. She trapped her spirit inside the gunnery comuters. It is run by an automated, artificial intelligence system, called the Will. In order to stop the Will, Luke, Cray, Nichos, C-3PO, and Calista must all work together. Luke falls in love with Calista, and has to come to terms with having to destroy the spaceship which is keeping her "alive." The ending has a surprising twist to it.

I don't know what these people are talking about.

The above reviews must have read a different Children of the Jedi than I did. I found it to be very well written. The action never stopped and the new characters that were brought in were very interesting. Luke finally found a love that suited him. Truly worthy of the name Star Wars.

Not your average Star Wars

i loved this book! It was time that star wars novels had a romantic side instead of the shoot-em up quality from the past. Don't get me wrong- the shoot-em up books are great to, but, this book(to me) was wonderful. There are alot of people who may not like this book. But go ahead- try reading it- go to the libray- read the summery. If you don't like it fine- but I bet other people will(not meant to be a pun!)!

Finally! A writer who respects the characters

Barbara Hambly respects the characters-especially Luke. I have read all of the SW books, and it seems that none of the authors have the courage to write about Luke in a compelling, sensitive way. (Others like to see the Jedi Master brought to his knees again and again. Do they have an inferiority complex?) The story is interesting and takes many unexpected turns. For those of you who don't like it, I wonder if action is the ONLY criteria that you place on the SW universe. Thank the Force that this book did not have the entire galaxy in terror. (Sun-Crusher! Give me a break). Hambly takes the time to develop characters in a way that none of the other authors did-she took the time and carefully crafted some tenderness without wimpiness into all of the characters. There were some errors in consistancy, however, and some of the facts and description of all the alien races got a bit confusing. She doesn't let you in all aspects of the places and descriptions at once-she gives you only a bit of information at a time so the reader can digest the scene one bite at a time. All and all, a very good book and vital to the character development of Luke, Han and Leia. Thank-you, Ms. Hambly.

Love story full of action, humor, unforgettable characters

Barbara Hambly is one of the best of the authors to write a Star Wars novel. Not as technically heavy as Timothy Zahn's series (which is by common consent the standard of excellence for SW novels), this book is the most richly textured of all the novels in human terms. The Luke/ Callista storyline is beautifully written and is peppered with humor (sadly lacking in other SW novels) and some of the best "extraneous" characters I've seen. Don't fly through this book like you would Kevin J. Anderson's; savor the Gakfedds and the Affytechans.
