12 yr old book report

This is a book report about a French priest named St. Louis De Montfort, based on the book The Story of Our Lady's Slave written by Mary Fabyan Windeatt. The book is 211 pages. This Biography tells of the lives and missions of St. Louis De Montfort and his companions. The story takes place in Poiters, France between 1673 and 1714. Father De Montfort, the main character, works in a poor house and is very successful in his work. This angered his enemies the Jansenists, a group of heretics who believe we should fear our faith instead of loving it. These heretics ran him out of town by poisoning the Bishop's opinion of Father De Montfort. Father De Montfort decided to visit the Pope to help him discern his future. The Pope told Father that he should lead missions in France. He meets many people along the way who help him in his missions or even apply to the Order Father is trying to start. Many of the Religious that followed him were deeply influenced by Father's life, and his devotion to Mary. There are five most interesting parts of the story to me. The first is when Father met Mary Louise Trichett, who was initially opposed to being a "slave" of Mary. She became Father's first Nun. Secondly, I loved Father's pilgrimage to Rome because it showed the similarity between Father and St. Dominic. St. Dominic also travelled to Rome to see the Pope and had a devotion to Mary. Thirdly, I loved Father's first mission at St. Bernard because Father converted almost the whole city! Fourth, when Brother Mathurin became Father's first follower due to one of Fathers Mission sermons. Finally, Father's erecting the mountain of the Calvary at Pontchateau, because it showed how humble he was and how much he would suffer for our Lord. After all his work, envy was the cause of it being leveled, ironically symbolic of the way Christ too was struck down. My reaction to this book and this saint was that of great interest. I was very influenced by Father De Montfort's love for the true devotion to Jesus through Mary. I had often seen statues with the words. "Ad Jesum per Mariam" and now I understand what that means more fully. Mary can take our meager sacrifices, which will never be sinless or perfect, and she can present them to her Son as a spotless gift. Here, in my life, is another saint pointing me towards Mary and the rosary. It started with John Paul II, then Padre Pio, Father Molewski, Father Grimm, and now St. Louis De Montfort! This book makes me want to look into the True Consecration to Mary, which shaped John Paul II's spirituality. I really admire the characters in this book and their perseverance. Father De Montfort had roadblocks everywhere he turned. He used these trials to earn graces. I loved this book and would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for inspiration.

Review from the Publisher

Although for children 12 and older, this is also probably the best biography for adults of St. Louis de Montfort, the "Apostle of Mary," famous preacher and author of True Devotion to Mary and The Secret of the Rosary.
