A war submarines fight in a war against China

Tom Clancy's SSN is about a submarine Cheyenne and her crew in the Pacific Ocean that has been put out to watch for other Chinese war ships or submarines. When America is forced to go to war with China, Cheyenne is given the order to destroy any Chinese ship or submarine that they find on their never- ending battle throughout the Pacific. Towards the climax, the crew learns that the Russians are selling Typhoon Class submarines (the largest yet created) to the Chinese, which has already put them into the ocean. This book combines interesting facts about submarines and the ocean with an adventurous story by Tom Clancy.

If you want character development buy a Harlequin ...

I mean there are a million of the good girl meets bad boy and shes the only one that sees his redeeming qulities kind of book .... SSN is not the typical Clancy fare but it certainly was a light and easy going read. Unfortunately like in real life on SSN's ther is little margin for errors or damage reports since you are either in top fighting condition in the sub or dead. Not too many subs are found limping into to port or like bombers after a mission making crash landings at home with thousands of bullet holes in the wings. Nope, subs are not forgiving .... there is generally only one landing when something goes wrong and usually it's like a few thou fathoms down .... The action may be reptitive in the book because it deals with a hunter killer sub and thats what happens in the whole book ... it's hunter killer. If you are looking for a Red october kind of book then don't buy, but if you are looking for a little boy Sunday afternoon with nothing to do kind os book, you'll enjoy it .... It's like watching the Discover channel on nuke sub tactics .... I LOVED IT!

Thank you! Mr. Clancy

To my dearest Mr. Clancy: I have always wanted to be a writer. The problem is: I'm not good at writing. I always feel that my characters are always sort of dry and lifeless, my plots are boring and naive. My vocabulary is limited and therefore I tend to repeat the same lines over and over again. I know I don't have the talent, still I wanted to write a book and make lots of money. I felt despaired, confused and helpless... Until now! With "SSN", my dearest Mr. Clancy, you have shown me how. You have given me new hope. Thank you...

Shocked at the bad reviews!

I can hardly believe my eyes as I read all the bad reviews. In fact, the book clearly states that it's a book based on tactics. I have a hard time understanding those reviews saying there is a story missing. The cover tells you it's about tactics, not story.Yes, the story is missing but that's what the book is about and quite frankly, I like that. It digs right into the action. Yes, it's technical and I like that too. You finally get to see what it's like to be a sub captain without having to hear why psychologically he chose to work in that field or what color his hair is.A great read! Easy to follow with a glossary included.

David vs Goliath - goes nuclear

Clancy must have lived several lives to be able to write like he does. Once again he has been able to paint a very realistic picture of the warfare that he writes about. However, even though the U.S. is far superier to most, technically, tactically and training wise, I find it difficult that one SSN can go against so many of the adversary and find only one or two that can cause him any concern. The Cheyanne doesn't even scratch the paint on their conning tower. I'm not sure I can believe that one. It's good none the less.
