First rate of its kind

Frank Deford was previously known to me only as a presenter of moderately interesting informational segments during pauses in TV tennis matches. This 1986 novel has raised him several notches in my esteem. A charming and entertaining comedy thriller, it uses all of the author's extensive knowledge of the tennis world, even to the extent of using people like McEnroe and Lendl (however did he get away with it?) as minor characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
