Quiet Monents

Charles Shields and Cynthia Ferrell have done the world a favor in writing this book. Charles was a man on a mission, always. This last piece of his life work exemplifies the faith through which Charles lived and died. I think he'd be pleased with the way the book reads and the sensation a reader gains by quietly paging through its contents. While there is clear thinking and much emotion in the volume, the thoughts and feelings are in no way limited to the authors. Much is required of the reader. Together, writers and readers create a sense of healing with no boundaries. Read it and be blessed.

Miraculous

I did not buy this book because I am sick, because I am not. I bought it because I knew Charles Shields intimately and he was the most amazing man I have ever known. I always wondered how he got through his illness while always showing to the world his stalwart love of God and his joy, even while in pain. I miss him dearly and miss all the answers to the questions I had for him. They are in this book! And I am so overjoyed. The Lectio Divina is such an enlightening exercise. I can't believe how it works. I find myself running to my room whenever I have a quiet moment because this book is giving me something I have missed for so long, and something I have been searching for. Amazing, just like the man.

Incredible

I have only had this book for a few days and the exercises/experiences take some time but it has been an incredible experience. Anyone who truly wants to know God better and, be all that he would have us be, should consider this book. It is what I have been looking for. There are specific experiences that help you listen to God. The combination of the author's personal experience with a terminal illness, a career as a pastor, along with his obvious gift to speak of God's Love is something worth experiencing yourself. I was drawn to this book as it relates to caregiving for my terminally ill mother but once again, God sends unexpected guidance and gifts that we don't know we need.
