take the challenge

When I read a book with the intention to review, I often dog ear or flag pages I want to come back and reference. This small slightly over 200 page book is about twice its size with folded over pages. If I was pushed to find one word to sum this book, I would call it sincerity. Nancy Mramor is a long time friend, full of talent and depth, but in reading this heart felt book, I realized I haven't scratched the surface of someone I thought I knew so well. She begins with a challenge, "why not become spiritually fit". What strikes you differently than many other books in this genre is the balanced and pragmatic view. Its not abandoning goals of achievement or wealth, but attaining the goals in harmony of what is best for you. In the "beginning the path" exercise of looking at a home in dream state as symbolic made a huge impression on me. With background and education in interior architecture I am very aware of my surroundings. I found my concerns change the house I saw in dream state--and it took no professional or complex reading to interpret the imagery. It's a very uncomplicated exercise. I wake up mornings examining the house I dreamt in and without training, it speaks volumes to me. None of the exercises are complicated, off the edge esoteric or time consuming. She shows you find the voice you had all along. It is very well written, and well documented with references from every religion, faith and science. It will appeal to both sides of your brain. She closes the book with her own battle with leukemia. This trek alone could have spoken volumes, but Nancy chose to write one small closing chapter. It shows the genuine and sincere woman she is and the authenticity of the book. While I know she will get the recognition she deserves, this was not a book written expressly for fame or a self serving memoir "I did it and you can too" kind of book. Again, the word sincere comes to mind. It took me a longer time than I expected to finish this book. Not because it's a hard read, it's a beautiful read. I equate it on the level of books by Thomas Moore, one of the few authors I feel the same way consistently about--when I get close to the end I purposely slow down, allowing myself only a few pages a day--because I don't want the book to end. That is exactly how I felt, I didn't want this book to end. I think this book is a beautiful book written by someone who's only intention is to teach you what she's found out from 20 years plus training and insight, in knowing your true self. Amazingly simple, especially with Nancy's wonderful guidance.
