I read this book because as a "senior citizen" I was searching to understand what has been meaningful in my life and what will be meaningful for what ever time I may live.I found this in Kornhaber's book. It is easy to read. The author talks about your personal spirit. He defines spirit as a universal and omnipresent force present both within the universe and within the self. It is a individual, personal spiritual part of our selves. Religions write about spirit but Kornhaber does not bring religious dogma into his exploration of the understanding of spirit. He calls "spirit" a seventh sense which deals with the meaning of life. Religious beliefs, cultural beliefs, societal institutions or psychology may help but they can not explain completely the working of Spirit. sometimes serve to de-spirit individuals. His book is about examining what we are or could be and how we have changed and lost touch with our Spirit. He thinks that if we can see what we were as children and what we have become as adults we can choose to return to being in touch with our Spirit. Our Spirit can be a support for joy, for relationships, for grief, for disconnecting from de-spiriting people. If we can hear our Spirit speaking it will help us be what we want to be in all aspects of our lives. This book is is for all people whether or not one believes in God or a Greater Power or even believe that God does not exist. It is how to become spirited in a world that has so many de-spiriting influences. It is up to each individual to choose to make this journey.
