It is very thorough. Almost everything important about java is in there including JDBC, JNI, Java Beans, Servlets, security management, even the specification of the virtual machine and most is explained well understandble. It is the best java book I ever saw!
Great book, both starter and later as reference

This book effectively doubles as an introductory book and a decent reference book when you become more confident and acomplished. It covers all the basics plus a lot of the advanced stuff not even mentioned in "..21 days ..." (eg, Networking comms, client/server code, object serialisation, CORBA support, JDBC, RMI, JavaBeans, JAR files, and a complete API reference section. It also comes with J++ 1.0 free ( in case you haven't already got it :) ) It retailed in Australia for $90 - so perform the appropraite calcs to get an approx cost for where you are ... I found it very useful, but as another comp.lang.java subscriber said, 1 book is rarely enough. However, I'm sure this book will give you a sound footing in Java (and don't forget about the docs/tutes at the various Java web sites ...)
