I'm using this book for my Spanish phonetics class and I think it's great. But I don't recommend it to beginners. It's good for advanced students to help their pronunciation or for teachers so they can teach their students the reasons for certain pronunciation. The first few chapters deal with stress and intonation. Then it goes on to vowels. After that it teaches a few consonants at time. The book is written in English, so it is much easier to use. It uses phonetic transcription, but not IPA. I'm not sure what it's called. Overall, I think it's a great book. Brandon Simpson
