A very interesting but complicated story

From the back of the book: Set against the magic and mystery of a lush Georgia island, this is the powerful story of a young woman's struggle for independence, a man's obsessive passion, and the dark family secrets that ensnare them both. At the center of this intensely moving novel is the piquantly beautiful Tally Malone, whose quest to uncover her shrouded past, and her love for two men -- international media mogul Cane Winslow and Nick Cantrell, handsome member of the island gentry -- may tear more than one family member apart. This story begins in the early 1950's and continues into the late 1960's although the entire story goes further back in time than that. It can be a bit confusing at first trying to tie in all the different characters both alive in the 50's and tragically dead before that but by the end of the story, everything all comes together. The main female character is Tallulah (Tally) Malone who is only in her teens at the beginning of the story while one of the main male characters, Cain Stephen Foster Winslow, is 28. The other male character is Nicholas Cantrell (Cain's nephew) who is close to the same age as Tally. To me, it was difficult to decide which male character I wanted Tally to be with because she didn't appear to be sure herself most of the time. There are dozens of minor characters throughout that truly fill the book with colorful and interesting people. Sometimes alot of the conversation about the business that Cain ran got boring but in the end, it was all important. Be ready for almost anything to happen in this story because it did!!! All in all, it was an excellent read and one of those books where your mind won't let you forget it for awhile afterwards.
