Verse with a decidedly Eastern body and tone that I found relaxing
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
The verse in this book has a decidedly Eastern body and tone. This is summed up in the short verse on page 16. "There are two ways to live. There's a life of conflict or a life of surrender." Surrender in this case means to go with the flow of life rather than engage in a constant battle with the inexorable processes of life. This is expressed in the first two lines of the verse on page 8 "If you cannot surrender yourself to the process of life, you are like a stream arguing with a rock. " And in the first lines of the verse on page 12 "When we live a life of surrender we are simply living intelligently: living with great integrity and compassion, with balance and patience and foresight. " In other words be one with nature rather than burning all your energy trying to conquer it. Like so much Eastern verse, one must read based on the totality and within the context in order to extract the complete meaning. When one is overwhelmed with work, children and spouse all demanding your time and effort, prose like this is very attractive. I found it quite relaxing.
