Good Intro to SONET/T1for the people who lack EE background

This book is an excellent introduction to SONET/T1 transport systems. It is not sloppily written in my opinion, as one of the review says. I do not have an EE background yet the book was very clear and precise. Recommended for your CCIE prep. Bellamy's book Digital Telephony covers some topics but it is geared towards the EE. Bellamy's book is difficult for people who dont have an EE.

A favorite for the technically adept person new to telecom.

This is the best book I have found for a detailed over-view of how the entire telecommunications system is hung together, including how all the legacy, current, and dis-similar systems are pieced together to make today's global telecom network. Further, author Waters is a professional teacher, and it shows in her clear understandable writing. I am a chip designer assigned to a telecom chip project, and have found many of the more technical texts start in the middle, are far less broad, and may assume that the reader is an old-school telecom insider. Yet many an experienced telecom technician could learn something from this book. Telecom is a huge yet exploding field, and I can recommend this book to anyone looking to come up to speed. This is not a circuits book; there is no circuit theory and no transistor-level schematics, but there are a large number of diagrams detailing the structure of how the black boxes are connected together, and the structure of the data, the data formating of SONET and many of the older standards. Yes, there are typos, and there are missing subjects, but this book remains the most popular introductory telecom book at my work site and in my pervue.
