Actions that he thought would spare his family only cause them greater harm. Michael Evan's storyline is dark and disturbing as readers watch Jessie's mental state deteriorate and not to mention the sick relationship between Jessie and Crystal. Dark and disturbed withstanding Son of A Snitch proves to be a fulfilling read.

(RAW Rating: 3.5) - A building rage

Jessie Thompson was the son of a drug dealer turned snitch. Jessie's father, Lorenzo, was forced into telling on everyone in his drug crew in order to save his wife from a jail sentence. He had forced his wife, Cathy, to carry drugs against her will and she was caught red handed. After Lorenzo went to jail, everyone on the streets teased Jessie and even beat him for being the son of a snitch. His life was hard until he turned the tables and became one of the biggest drug dealers in the city. His problem was that he could not wash his father's downfall from his mind. As a result, he began using his own product and basically lost his mind. Revenge against all snitches was what he wanted. What Jessie wanted, Jessie got. He turned into a cold-blooded killer of anybody he even thought might be a snitch. Michael Evans has written a compelling story of life on the streets. His characters are well fleshed out and believable. Occasionally, the book gets a touch confusing when the action gets heavy, especially in the beginning when Lorenzo and Jessie's lives are a bit mixed together. It is certainly a book that anyone considering becoming a drug dealer should read before they take that step. It is an interesting read and I would recommend it to anyone interested in what really happens on the streets. Reviewed by Alice Holman of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

The Sins of the Father

Snitches - the law's weapon of choice and the streets lowest form of life. There's nothing worse than being labeled a snitch, a lying, conniving, backstabbing, dirty rat. It's a badge of disgrace you can never get rid of. Even in death you are remembered as such. Code of the streets - Snitches Get Stitches (Ditches are for Snitches). Life was good for young Jessie, the son of a ghetto superstar and street legend. His father, Lorenzo, was the co-founder of the infamous SSJ Crew. Lorenzo's name evoked fear and respect. Suddenly everything faded to black for Jessie when his father did the unthinkable - became a federal informant, ratting out his friends and fellow crew members to avoid kingpin charges. There's a thin line between love and hate. The streets that once loved Lorenzo now despise him. Locked up in federal protection, the streets focus their disdain and hate on his only son. "You're in the hood now. Daddy's no longer rich. You're the son of a snitch," Jessie is taunted. Determined to get out of his father's shadow and be his own man, Jessie wrecks havoc. Come in peace or leave in pieces. Michael Evans' Son of a Snitch hits the mark. Props to the author for doing something different. The concept of this novel piqued my interest and the execution did not disappoint. It's the unique story of one man's struggles and inner demons that torment him daily. Michael draws readers into the turmoil filled life of Jessie entangling their attention. Son of a Snitch is edgy and richly detailed. You have my attention and I'm ready to listen to book three. Son of A Snitch is a 'daring' novel....

Lorenzo and his right hand man Red are the heads of the infamous drug dealing SSJ Crew. The SSJ Crew is feared and respected in the streets of Harlem. Lorenzo thrives off of his ghetto celebrity status while providing for his wife Kathy and their children Crystal and Jessie. But it all comes crashing down when the Feds force Lorenzo to become a snitch to his own crew. Locked away in prison, Lorenzo doesn't realize how becoming a snitch will effect his family, especially his son Jessie. Jessie had to grow up with the constant teasing and embarrassment of being the son of a snitch. Jessie forms a drug dealing crew of his own called The Crossover Crew. He vows revenge to anybody that's a snitch. Jessie thinks he finally gets the respect he deserves in the streets but his uncontrollable anger and some personal demons may do him in. Son Of A Snitch is a daring novel by Michael Evans. You feel the confusion of Lorenzo when trying to decide what to when the Feds came knocking on his door. I thought the snitch storyline was unique. This novel is a gripping page-turner that won't let go. Son Of A Snitch also shows how one's actions can determine their family's destiny. With Son Of A Snitch, Michael Evans has brought a refreshing twist to today's urban fiction market.

The Dark Secret

Michael Evans' protrayal of one family's deep dark secret was extremely well written. The main character was not only the son of a snitch, he also shared a secret with his sister and as they got older it became more and more difficult to keep it hidden. This book is a must read and highly recommended.
