MEMORY LANE

Ms. Molare takes you on a road of looking into everyone's lives from the preacher of the neighborhood church to the unwed mother who believes everything that her boyfriend has to say to her. As you read through the book you begin to realize that these are everyday people matter fact they remind you of people you know and that is because Ms. Molare has written about everyday problems that you see in America. The stories are hilarious but realistic which makes you think about your neighborhood, your life and your family. Making you think well who does that sound like? Not only does Ms. Molare keep it real she doesn't hold anything back. Some of my favorite stories where The Oldest Lie Ever Told it takes a look at a high student who finds her self pregnant and in the aftermath the guy who is the child's father but only to realize that the Oldest Lie in the book has been told and now she has to raise her love child and of course there is Laying On Of The Hands we take a look at the Fifth Street Divine United Sanctified Church of the One and Only. Okay what a name for a church but it should tell you something is up already but the healing power well lets just say its some interesting healing power just be careful where you practice it at. Once you get done reading the many stories in this book the question you need to ask yourself is where did I fit in at in the book?

Up Close and Personal

Short stories, connected characters and seemingly outrageous and hilarious behavior is the gist of SOMEWHERE IN AMERICA by Sydney Molare. Twenty short stories highlight a particular neighborhood somewhere in America that could be my neighborhood, your neighborhood, or anyone's neighborhood, anywhere in America. The stories hit on the usual suspects, cheating spouses, the down-low brother who is not gay, the philandering preacher, the gold-digger, domestic violence, the maintenance man, too many rules from my parents, wacky weed, baby mama drama and the list goes on. The stories are funny and gritty; the book is fast-paced and will have you shaking your head at the chaos happening. Molare presents a realistic view of a typical neighborhood and its surrounding area that showcases human beings and the situations that they create for themselves. My favorite short story is the last one titled SOMEWHERE IN AMERICA, which features an elderly resident who has watched all the drama and heard all of the rumors amidst her window. It is truly hilarious as she proclaims - "My neighborhood, your neighborhood. Ain't no difference. Don't matter if it's hoity-toity or the ghetto. Ain't no different! The more things change the more they stay the same. You can move, but you can't escape it. Folks are the same everywhere. Same s___, different place, somewhere in America." Need a laugh, pick this up, Molare does not disappoint. Reviewed by Dawn R. Reeves (...)

It?s a beautiful day in the neighborhood? or is it?

There is a world of intrigue in the lives that go on behind closed doors. Unbeknownst to us cauldrons of drama within our neighbor's houses constantly boils and simmers right under our noses, seemingly unrelated to the existence that resides right next door. But what would you do if you found out that new baby of Mrs. Jones was the product of your husband's seed? Or that the man you just knew loved you endlessly, was creeping with the cross dresser two houses down? Within the pages of Somewhere in America, Miss Sydney Molaré uncovers more than six degrees of communal separation within twenty entertaining short stories. From the seventeen year old mother-to-be blinded by the promises of her much older lover, to the court-TV-like showdown between "The Wife" and "The Baby Momma", Somewhere in America weaves together tales that are believably crafted from the drama that is life. "Massage-a-Twa..." details an age old request by a husband wishing to add some spice into his love life by insisting he and the Mrs. try their hand at a threesome. Not unreasonably, the wife is taken through all the varying emotional ranges; disbelief, anger, self doubt, and finally resignation. But her consent comes with a few stipulations and brings truth to the adage, be careful what you wish for.Right place, wrong time is the theme for "The Proof Is In The Pudding". As a semi reformed "playa" all he wanted was a little fun away from home. When he met Trish he got all that and then some. She was into all the kinky stuff his wife wouldn't indulge and he was loving every minute of it. Then one night Trish is found strangled in her apartment after one of their more aggressive (...) Did he do it? You be the judge. The endless mental struggle of love and suffering is touched on in "I've Been Loving You Too Long", where our main character fights with the decision to walk away from an abusive marriage. As she reasons with her higher self and makes excuses for the rages she endures, she becomes faced with one final test: the accusation that she's been unfaithful. Will the blows that follow be her final wake up call? What do all these stories have in common? Well in "Somewhere in America" an eighty-eight year old Maime Louella Willis breaks it all down for you. As the matriarch of this relatively quiet neighborhood she's witnessed all these stories from her perch in her living room window. She can tell you about that brother "On the Down Low" with the she-male who's "Pretty In Pink" that results in a murderous love triangle. Maime has the goods on the "The Janitor" who just moved in the neighborhood and is making much more money than a custodial job should allow. For half a century she's seen all these stories unfold and links them together in a ongoing chain for drama even Jerry Springer couldn't top! These comical and realistic works of fiction can be the narration for any one of our lives. Told in third person Somewhere in America blends together several storie
