Somewhat Saved

A very enjoyable book. I lov Sister Betty. Pat G'Orge-Walker has done it again. At some points in the story I was crying and laughing at the same time.

Sister Betty is at it again!

In this title story of Pat G'Orge-Walker's latest book, one would have to wonder how `almost' in this case serve the purpose of the ultimate goal of salvation. Church life as told by this author has always offered a different view of ecclesiastical élan. Now comes SOMEWHAT SAVED, the most soulful and rip-roaring riposte ever! Again, we have the characters that have always defined the sixth book in this hilarious series. The cast of parishioners do battle in their usual haphazard way. You will be reintroduced to the main culprits in this one concerning Sister Betty, Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister `propheslying' and procrastinating with the purpose of an ongoing mission to harness and keep Sister Betty in check. Of course, central to the chaff that churns these stories are the jockeying for position to be sanctified beyond reproach in the Ain't Nobody Saved but Us-All Others Goin' to Hell church. This time around there's new poison in the pulpit with the Reverend Leotis Tom, who comes with new ideas that causes much more than hems and haws to settle with these matrons of mischief. He wants to give new flavor to the Mothers Board to coincide with an upcoming Las Vegas conference. And lo and behold who does he asks to run for high office in it? It's none other than Sister Betty to the chagrin of Sasha and Mother Bea. It's ON now and, and as they say in the annals of church lore - God don't like ugly! ...And there's plenty of it going around. Witness how devotion to being a better Christian is complicated by secret passions, satisfying old grudges, and sly vendettas being staged to keep the upper hand. It keeps you laughing as you turn each page. The gist of the actions begins when two tickets are awarded to Mother Bea and Sasha for the conference to placate them after a donnybrook at the church. Las Vegas, the city of sin lives up to the reputation with the gang in high jinks managing to keep Jesus on the back burner, even. The plot shifts a bit when Bea is mesmerized by a woman she has identified as someone she's perhaps seen before in life. Here's where the author in my opinion doesn't allow the story to tilt away from the center while introducing yet, another character. Zipporah, we find out falls right in step and is a good adjunct to the mix, and has a past and a story of her own that probably would warrant her being cast in some future role in this series. I liked the story because a good job is rendered parodying strong messages of forgiveness, revelation, repentance, and an underlying sense of romantic longings amid mayhem and mischief of this hilarious crew. Inspirational lessons when a certain member is exposed causes aspersions to fly at the sistahs smack dab in the middle of their well-intended purposes of the process of being saved and sanctified. Author G'Orge-Walker pulls no punches and adds more oomph to the olio that has always been a staple for stable interpretive value to her characters. In this, we see how she's

Pat G'Orge Walker has done it again with her newest novel "Somewhat Saved". She takes you on anothe wild journey of ladies from the churches Mother Board as they prepare and go on their trip to Vegas. The women are a riot as they cause trouble almost everywhere they go. As you read the book Pat also inspires you to stop and think about a few things that might be going on within your life as well. Another well written christian comedy to say the least. If you enjoyed the antics from the women in "Cruisin' On Desperation" then you will love "Somewhat Saved"!!!! Thank you for sharing Pat!

In the latest loving church spoof from G'Orge-Walker (Sister Betty! God's Calling You, Again!), Sister Betty and her fellow evangelists get shipped off to Las Vegas to attend the evangelical Mothers Conference. After Betty and her two nemeses, Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister (about whom the Reverend Bling thinks to himself "Doggone Alzheimer's gonna make those two old crones destroy my place of business"), arrive with much hullabaloo, Bea spots someone she recognizes but can't place. The narrative then shifts to Zipporah, a beautiful homeless woman, and G'Orge-Walker expertly balances touching emotion with the ladies' antics as Zipporah gets a job that eventually leads her to the ladies and learns some things about herself in the process. Bickering, gambling and comeuppance are all on the agenda as the crew, far from the Pelzer, S.C., parish whence they came, negotiate Sin City. (Apr.)

Somewhat Saved!

From South Carolina a colorful cast of characters from the "Ain't Nobody Saved but Us - All Other Goin' to Hell Church" soar into Las Vegas for the Mothers Board Conference. There is no-one better who could take the Mothers Board to "higher heights" than Sister Betty according to the church's pastor. But Sister Betty dosen't feel that grand about running for President of the Mothers Board, especially as the current President Sister Sasha Pray On and Vice President Sister Bea Blister...aka Mother Terminator and Mother Rambo respectively would rather battle with Satan than be oust from their precious positions. Years of malice between these three women come to a head at a hotel in Las Vegas, when one woman's family secret is innocently revealed. This secret throws a curve ball straight at these church sisters and hits them right where it hurts...in their soul. It seems as if it's time to repent while they are in Sin City!!! As the antics these ladies pull lead to some hilarious situations with Sister Betty wanting to "Kill" somebody...lol, each questions their faith and tries to pull strength from each other. But can they ban together and stand up for someone who obviously needs to hear the truth? An awesome story that has a title that fits like a glove. "Somewhat Saved" sheds light on how secrets buried for decades can still come to light and be just as hurtful if not more when finally revealed. Author Pat G'orge-Walker's comedic timing is on point and richly layered with entertainment. The unbiased passion that radiates as the story comes full circle makes "Somewhat Saved" a funny but touching novel. Great to see Mother Pray On and Mother Blister back from "Cruisin' On Desperation" and Kudos for the Zipporah Moses character!! Locksie ARC Book Club Inc.
