Witty and Funny

This is a departure from the other TBJ books but can still stand on its own. I hope the band of writers (TBJ) will continue to write a series for the group in this book.

Book 4 and totally new!

Ok I have read some of the reviews and who ever said that every book that comes from this author must be a wonderful romance. I agree however that it is slow at first as we are getting to know some of these new characters that we have never met. Background as the first 3 books are focused on a group of friends in New York City and how their lives inner twine together we see a new group in this book. Derek is the main character in this book. Derek is a "Kept boy" by his rich lover. Derek sets out to make a life for himself by getting a job at The Mall of The Universe. We get to see Derek make friends and have sometime very funny adventures. Derek also has to struggle with understanding how much he truly loves his boyfriend and just wants to feel his mans arms around him. We get to see this young man grow during the course of this book. Much like we did with several of the characters in the first three books. I do recommend that fans of the book series read this in order. Why you ask? I am so glad you did. The author is so smart to bring in Shelia from the New York group to tie the story together. Also characters from this book start showing up in book 5. Over all if you love the book series I would strongly recommend this book and author. Trust me Timothy James Beck is on the top of my favorite author list.

Great light reading

If you are in the retail business you will love this book. Many of the references are so true

A new set of friends. . .

This is the 4th TJB(Timothy James Beck)book. I think that the biggest problem with this book has nothing to do with this book at all. People who have discovered the TJB books LOVE the NYC friends. This book is about a new set of friends. We have to get to know them and what makes them tick. I could relate to it because many moons ago when I was in my early 20's I worked in a very busy mall. Not as big as this one however, it was a busy mall. Mall people as they are called do have their own set of "A" groups who think that people aren't as cool because people work on the carts or in the food court. I suspect that those people have strong feelings about the "A" groups. I liked that one of the NYC friends makes a visit to the mall. If you think about it for a minute you can figure out which one. I thought it was going to be Martin, but it wasn't. I do think that at first you get the impression that Hunter is a jerk. At the end of the book you have a different impression or atleast I did. My favorite is the Hotel Lounge Singer, I have a feeling that one of the next books about this set of friends is going to be from her viewpoint. She has some tales to tell.

A Departure for TJB fans

I found this to be a nice change of pace from the previous books by Mr. Beck (which were wonderful). Instead of following a familiar pattern, the author has given us something new to play with. A new setting...the fictional "Mall of the Universe", interesting new characters, and a new style. There were some unexpected twists along the day that kept the story interesting, not to mention one or two characters whom I couldn't get enough of. And as always with Mr. Beck's novels, I find the characters and their relationships to be very believable and real. This book is a good, enjoyable read and I highly recommend it.
