Each book follows a similar format with straightforward explanations of terms and science processes, making them easy to understand. Colorful photographic illustrations, diagrams, and charts and comprehensive coverage of the subjects make these books worthwhile. Each book also contains a summary, extensions to "Find Out More," a glossary, and an index. This volume describes the wonders of soil, including types, characteristics, and layers. The author explains how to study soil and how it is used. This is an excellent, fact-filled resource book. Although the book is written for grades 6 through 9, it would also be useful to elementary teachers. Teachers of gifted and talented students as well as those using differentiated instruction strategies would find also find this book valuable. [...]
