The new edition of an introductory sociology textbook aimed at undergraduates. Each chapter deals with a topic such as gender, social stratification, socialization, deviance and social control, race... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have used Ferrante's text now in my introductory sociology classes for over five years. In its 4th ed., the text has been greatly recieved in all my classes. What is so different about the text is that it has an international and multicultural perspective. While examining the same concepts found in most introductory texts, Ferrante's work explores them within a wider, international context, all the while providing a comparative look at American society. Each chapter takes the reader to a different part of the globe, providing both excellent historical and contemporary examples. Most importantly (especially for my students), the text allows the instructor to introduce sociology and diversity at the same time. Not only timely, but imperative in this emerging global, postmodern era. You'll get a lot of miles out of this one!
