SOCIOLOGICAL ODYSSEY: CONTEMPORARY READINGS IN INTRODUCTORY SOCIOLOGY, Third Edition, helps bring sociology to life through a wide range of engaging, current articles, covering issues such as Internet... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I've just used this in my Intro Sociology classes and got great feedback from my students. They especially liked how the readings were relatively short, giving them a bite-size chunks of sociological ideas. A major problem in intro classes is that there is so much material to cover, so the brief pieces are a help. My favorite entry in it was Michael Kimmel's updating of Horace Minor's "Body Ritual Among the Nacerima." Everyone (except a few frat boys) found it hilarious. I also appreciated the (too) short piece on the lives of illegal immigrants. I would've had more on race, but there is enough variety for any prof/instructor to find good readings in her/his area to focus on. And (of course) thank you for making sure ethnography is included in discussions of methods. (It's the Adlers!).
