Book Overview

"This is a superb book. By presenting basic sociological topics in terms of the paradoxes they contain, O′Brien situates the discipline and its subject matter in historical and intellectual context, while using examples that are contemporary, accessible, and of interest and relevance to students. I look forward to using Social Prisms in my sociology courses and to the animated class discussions that I′m sure her book will engender." --Anita...

A must-read book.

This book is brilliantly written. It intrigues, stimulates, and provokes thought about the social paradoxes and contradictions in our world. Jodi O'Brien does a superb job in using examples drawn from popular culture to engage the reader and expose the complexities of contemporary social life. This book is written in everyday language and is easy to read and understand. It's not just for the college student, but also for the lay person who desires to peer through the prism. I was surprised at what I saw. This book is a life-learning experience all on its own.
