Practical

Soccor Calling has hundreds of practical ideas for coaching young players, specifically in soccor but more broadly in any sport. Running a practice with 8 year olds should look different than a practice with 14 year olds. Dean Conway knows his audience. The tips for running a practice will help every coach, regardless of his or her experience or sport. It will help ensure a safe learning environment for all children, thus increasing their skills and knowledge, but most importantly, their love of the game. Conway's thoughtful and creative approach keeps the "play" in play, thus empowering the players and giving ownership of the experience to the kids. A must have in the tool box of every coach. Excellent, comprehensive coachng manual

Mr. Conway deals with more than how to run a practice and how to teach skills. He lays out honest, reachable game level objectives for players of all abilities. He emphasizes how the game of soccer should be respected, how players should treat their teammates, coaches, referees, opposing players, and more importantly how a coach should treat his or her players - and how the game should always be about having fun. For over a decade Mr. Conway was the Massachusetts Youth Director of Coaching, and he puts his thirty years of teaching and coaching expertise in this one volume. A must read for coaches. Five stars.
