Bob Moore was my first creative writing instructor at Grossmont College, over thirty years ago. I had no ambition to be a writer back then, but rather took the course as a way to sharpen my writing skills. I gave the book four stars rather than five, because it's somewhat dated, and in this era of emerging technology and alternate publishing schemes, it's a little behind. Nevertheless, there's one fundamental truth in this little gem that Bob preached: no one can teach you to write; you have to learn, and some help can be forthcoming, but in the end, it's what you do that define your abilities as a writer. No handy "tricks" or "what's the secret" about this book or writing in general, just a lot of bits that will help point you in the right direction. Bob warned me, even before I started writing for a living, that I would probably be his most successful student, and after 24 published novels, I guess I am. I am pleased I found this venue to publicly offer a way overdue thank you to him.
Exceptional guide for the creative and beginning writer.
