Worth Repeated Reading

I have not read the other McRae books, but I liked this one. It grabbed my interest from the first page and was hard to put down. The romance is sparkling and both the hero and the heroine are truly likeable. The action moves at a good pace and remains focused on the love story. I've re-read the book at least three times and I know I will again, unlike some other Ranney books which are disastrous, for example The Scottish Companion where absolutely everything went wrong.

Very Good, but...

This story held my interest throughout but I thought the incident involving Margaret was handled strangely. Douglas was extremely nonchalant considering the circumstances.

Now I have to go back and read the rest of the series!

This was recommended to my reading group by the owner of a romance book store, and she was SO RIGHT about this writer being fabulous. The rest of my group liked the book, I LOVED it. The hero is super sexy (how can you not love a devoted single father), and the heroine really got put through the wringer. I thoroughly enjoyed the star-crossed lover thing going on in the back story and how nicely (and honestly) it was resolved.

The Storyline was Great

I can't believe people want this storyline to end. Each McRae is unique and part of a loving family I enjoy reading about. They each have their own story, so there's no sameness to me. I've read nearly everything by Ranney and I enjoyed this book, too. This was another one I found hard to put down.

EXPERIENCE IT

Karen Ranney delivers another installment in the Highland Lord series with her artful, signature narrative that makes the reader want to read every syllable of every word. Every word has a purpose, therefore, one doesn't just read about Ranney's characters but experiences them. In wonderful Ranney style, the main characters come into the story with dark, torturous pasts, which makes them needy but also abrasive. The reader FEELS Jeanne's lonliness and rejection and FEARS Douglas' revenge, as well as SENSES their soulful attraction, especially through their sexual encounters. Likewise, one LOOKS around every corner to protect Jeanne from the lurking dangers of her father's greed and Mr. Hartley's lust. Through Margaret, one SEES trust and hopefulness and CONNECTS those qualities to Jeanne's tortured body and spirit. Best of all, Douglas MacRae saves Jeanne (and himself) with his MASTERFUL leadership, PROFOUND love, and GENTLE touch. Experiences! Those who truly appreciate Ranney's multi-layered writing style will not want to miss reading this multi-layered story of Douglas and Jeanne, so in love that time, distance, torture, and regret can not keep them apart.
