Great Book!!

Haley Pearson Mrs. Rowe's 4th block 10-1-08 This is a great book and I am so glad that I read it. The book is about a girl named Ashleigh. She is about seventeen years old. She has just moved to an island off the coast of Maine. It is freezing all the time and there is always a bunch of snow. Which is totally different then what she is used to because she is from north Texas. Where there is very little snow and you wear shorts almost all year- round. The island is very quaint. It is a very romantic island. With horse drawn carriages, and the white blanket of snow that cover the ground every morning. The plot left me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book . When she starts falling for this guy named Josh. Some of the stuff that she says just makes you picture you knight in shining armor. A huge conflict in the story is when she finds out that the guy that she likes actually has a girlfriend. This turns out being one of her new best friends. It does end up getting better but it takes some time. I believe that the theme I that you should always follow your heart.

One of my favorite books.

This is the first book I read by Rachel hawthorne. I took it out at the library. After I read it. I had to buy it. It has become one of my favorite books.

Loved this book!

Reviewed by Emily Robbins (13) for Reader Views (3/08) "Snowed In," by Rachel Hawthorne, is a cute story about Ashleigh and her mom. They just moved to a very tiny island in the Great Lakes, thinking it would get them away from all the exhausting drama. They expected it to be fun, but did they really know just how cold this little island could get? Ashleigh has to adjust to this extraordinarily different new life, battle out the freezing weather, make some new friends, and possibly a new boyfriend, in this funny modern romance. Ashleigh is my favorite character in "Snowed In." She was unpredictable, and always made me laugh. Ashleigh was always doing something funny, and I could never figure her out! She was by far my favorite character. Nathalie, Ashleigh's new best friend on the chilly island, came off as rude and very pushy to me. She was a great character for this book, and she made the story more interesting, but I didn't like her in the least bit. Nathalie was absolutely, no question, my very least favorite character in the whole entire book. My favorite part in this book would have to be in very beginning, when she Ashleigh has just woken up, still half asleep, and she stumbles across `the lumberjack,' Jake. She was so not a morning person, so she was a little grumpy, and she just starts chewing out Jake. I was laughing for the rest of the chapter. "Snowed In" by Rachel Hawthorne, though a little predictable in some parts, was an all-around incredible book. I just could not put it down! There was never once a boring moment in it, and I loved every little inch. The author did a fantastic job, and I thought the she wrote the book very well. I would absolutely, without hesitation, recommend "Snowed In," by Rachel Hawthorne, to everyone.

How would you like to move from Texas, where an ice storm is a major news story, to a remote island in the Great Lakes that has no cars, but does have store signs that say "Return after the first thaw"? And to find out that the junior class will have a mere six students when the winter break is over? Ashleigh's parents are recently divorced, and to make a clean start, Ashleigh and her mother have moved to a small island to open a bed and breakfast named Chateau Ashleigh. Their first day in town, Nathalie and her mom come and introduce themselves. Ashleigh immediately has a new friend. Through Nathalie, Ashleigh explores her new town and meets various kids her own age. Of particular interest is Chase, who works at the local fudge shop. Nathalie warns Ashleigh that Chase is a player, but Ashleigh isn't too worried about that. She's just looking to make some new friends and fit in. One morning, Ashleigh wakes up to find a strange boy knocking on her bedroom door. In enters Josh, the son of the local handyman. Ashleigh's mom has hired them to help do some general repairs around their new house to get it ready for patrons. Ashleigh is immediately drawn to Josh, and a tentative friendship forms. However, it turns out that Josh is actually Nathalie's boyfriend. Nathalie, however, never refers to him by name, only as "my boyfriend." Ashleigh finds this odd but respects the boundaries and doesn't pursue Josh. As the story develops, Ashleigh suspects that Chase has romantic interests in Nathalie, Nathalie might not really like Josh, just the idea of a boyfriend, and could Josh possibly be interested in her??? As the winter months on her new island home pass, Ashleigh finds that she likes the quaintness of her new life, and maybe the move might just have been the best thing for her. I always enjoy Ms. Hawthorne's stories, and this was no exception. I'll admit that I would never want to live on such a cold island during the winter. But Ms. Hawthorne has a way with describing all the charm of the village and almost makes me want to go there, too! Watching the tentative romance develop between Ashleigh and Josh make the story very appealing to all. Reviewed by: Jaglvr

Winter and Snow go hand in hand

Another wonderful teen romance book by one of my favorite authors, Rachel Hawthorne. The story focuses on 16 year old Ashleigh Sneaux and how she adjusts to small town life. She has a "sample-every-guy-and-commit-to-no-one" kind of outlook on relationships, but she finds that hard to stand by when she meets... And I'll just leave it at that. :) I personally really loved this book. It is quite short compared to her other 300-pagers, but it is nonetheless just as great. There were numerous moments that left me smiling till the very end and made me feel all giddy and butterflies-in-stomach inside. I found myself reading it every second I could and did not put it down until I finished it about 2 hours later. I very highly recommend this book and anxiously await her next novel.
