A fun take on a Treasure Hunt!

I read this book to my granddaughter in three parts. The book has three riddles in it and I read up to each riddle each night. We did it this way because after every clue she had a bunch of questions about what the funny words in the book meant. I got the idea of reading it in three parts from the author's free teacher's guide. As a former teacher I thought it was a great way to break up the book so it lasted for a few nights of reading and sharing. At the end of the book we did an art project and made a treasure box (also found in the teacher's guide) and had a little picnic of our own. A lovely book to share and I can't wait to read it again next time I visit her!

Great book to inspire the imagination

Snickeyfritz was a very entertaining story about three young girls who were sent on a treasure hunt by their Papa after they claim they're bored. As a mom I hear my daughter cry boredom too often and I'm always searching for fun ways to get her out of her funk and start using her imagination. Now whenever I hear her say to me, 'Mom, I'm bored!" I just tell her to go and find her Snickeyfritz :) The book has reminded her that her most important toy is her imagination. Also, the fact that the artist created the book's characters out of masking tape has inspired her to make all kinds of stuff out of tape!

Snickeyfritz

As a grandparent I really enjoyed reading this book to my granddaughter. She loved hearing all the old-time sayings throughout the story. Her favorite phrase is "Thing-a-ma-jig". The story is so creative and vivid - very different from any other children's book I've read. It's really exciting to find a book that we both love and can share together. Hearing her laugh at the fun expressions and then ask me what they mean really gives us a chance to connect and allows me to explain to her how I used these phrases when I was a child.

Stimulates the imagination

Three little girls are stuck inside on a rainy afternoon. They're bored and don't know what to do, so Papa sends them on a treasure hunt to keep them busy. But the clues he gives them are obscure, and first they'll need to figure them out before they can find the objects he wants. Sprinkled liberally throughout the text are colorful descriptive phrases, highlighted in a glossary at the end of the story. Old-time gems like "nooks and crannies," "the cat's meow," and "fiddlesticks" may leave kids scratching their heads in wonder. The illustrations are photos of uniquely crafted, life-size dolls made of masking tape and paint. These dolls were then placed in the author's home, surrounded by artifacts and souvenirs acquired on her travels. Far better than just watching TV on a boring rainy day, Snickeyfritz stimulates the reader's imagination and presents a team effort in solving Papa's puzzle. Kids will find this a fun and enjoyable read. Reviewer: Alice Berger, Bergers Book Reviews
