Best Book for Educators about Racism, Genocide, and Prejudice

This book made me realize that every person is a target for racism, genocide, and prejudice. The Holocaust did exist and important facts are proven to put revisionists at rest. I love this book! I will use it in my future classrooms to educate others of racism and genocide. The author has explained why history repeats itself and why evil can control our lives. Every one must read this book. Even though education does not open every person eyes, this book will have some emotional effect on them. My heart aches for every life that has parished through every gruesome experience and hardship (starvation, torture, disease, persecution, etc.). May we all live in peace and be able to rid discrimination for every person, group, minority..... This is the message I get after reading this brillant book!

Comprehensive

This book is a must have for anyone interested in the Holocaust. I teach a unit on this topic to eighth graders and we use this book as a text. The chapters are short, reader-friendly, and yet very complete. I have yet to find another non-fiction Holocaust book as comprehensive as this.

An excellent choice

This book was wonderful. By the time I finished reading it, I was crying. The story of the holocaust is well expressed in the pages of this book. I felt that when I was reading it I was actually in a concentration camp witnessing the events. I never knew that all that happened to Jews. They were baked in ovens, put in gas chambers, shot on spot, or attacked by dogs. They had to endure long periods of time without health care or food. This book had pictures, maps and great writing. I think that this book is great but I don't reccomend it for children under 12 because of pictures, and describtions on treatment of Jews. Great job Baraba!

a Review

Though im not jewish and am a christian i was interested in the holocaust so i bought this book through my school. While readin this book i cried at how much the jews and mentally ill and gypsies had to suffer just because they were jew mentally ill etc. Obviously this book isn't a happy one it tells of the holocaust and answers parctically all of your answers. This book is a good book and though like i said its a historic one that tells how cruel the world was this is a good book for people studying about the holocaust or part of what happened in europe during world war II.

I highly recommened this book.

Barbara Rogasky writes wounderfully. Though Smoke and Ashes is written for juvenilles, it is good enough for an adult to read. It captures the horror of the holocaust, and emphisizes "Never Again."
