This text provides the background information fitness enthusiasts need to understand how to lose weight whilst getting healthy. It covers nutrition guidelines, what foods to eat and what foods to avoid, and includes findings from recent nutritional studies.
I agree with the other 5-star reviews I've seen. This is this well written, sensible guide without the hype and false promises of the typical "diet book" (and the price is a real bargain as well). I'd recommend it to anyone.
Best diet book I've ever read

This is by far the best book on dieting I've ever read. Not just a diet but a whole new healthy way of eating. So far I've been able to lose 60 pounds by following the sensible eating guidelines in the book. These guidelines are flexible enough so you don't feel deprived. Anyone who is serious about loosing weight and feeling good at the same time should give this a try.
Read it if you're sick of "diet books"

Thank god this book doesn't have the same jokey, smarmy tone of those Complete Idiot's Guides. It's totally accessible but not "dumbed down" or condescending, and it's packed with good, realistic advice. Most important, the author has a great attitude about weight loss: do it for your physical and mental health, not because you want to look like a Vogue model. Her advice hits the mark.
This "smart" guide actually lives up to its name.

It's easy to read but not dumbed down, full of sensible and usable advice. I hate diet books; this isn't one. In fact, it's very anti-diet and anti-weight obsessiveness, but it's very pro health, which is a refreshing change. Friendly, supportive, real--and smart.
The most effective, no-nonsense dieting book I've used.

After twenty-five years, my search for the perfect diet bookended when I came across "Smart Guide to Getting Thin andHealthy" by Katherine Colton and Michael Cader. After reading the first couple of paragraphs of the introduction, it was clear to me that this book would provide me with the balanced, common-sense guidance I'd been seeking since I started trying to lose weight as a twenty-year-old (when I finally faced the fact that I could no longer blame "baby fat" for the snug fit of my 40"-waist jeans). I've never before been able to so successfully integrate into my daily life a program put forward in a book. It's wonderful.Among the clutter of "state of the art" diet books, revolutions, breakthroughs and miracles for people trying to lose a few (or many) pounds and keep the weight off, "Smart Guide to Getting Thin and Healthy" is the real thing. It works. END
