Small Wonders

This Oscar-nominated documentary (which inspired the 1999 film Music of the Heart) follows the struggles of Roberta Guaspari-Tzavaras as she teaches violin to youngsters in East Harlem, N.Y. After budget cuts slash her school's music program, she creates a nonprofit organization to train children selected by lottery, and her disciplinarian style pays off as her charges reap the rewards. Fiddlers Itzhak Perlman and Isaac Stern make appearances.
