How unfortunate.

I wish kids these days had the opportunity to be kids. I recently heard about a woman who took her daughter for a haircut and manicure every two weeks. Her daughter is 4, now going on 19. I'm only 33 myself and have always been envious of the stories I heard about how life was "back then". I'm beginning to realize that, in my young-age, I too had a wonderful childhood. I had no mp3 player, computer, cell-phone, dvd player, or any other "tech-gadget" that had to be taken away as punishment for my crimes. And I'm glad I didn't. K.B. McGehee's stories instill a desire to really want life to be the way it was back then, pure and simple. If you want a piece of Americana to read, Small Town Grocery is the book for you.

Read this book.

K.B. McGehee wonderfully captures the innocence of his youth in his first book, "Small Town Grocery: Memories of Simple Folks in a Simple Time." You will not be able to put the book down. You will be laughing out loud when you read about the tobacco spitting "Holy Ghost Revival" preacher's sermon and you will be moved to tears when reading about McGehee's walk through the cemetery. With wit and wonder, McGehee recalls his childhood days working in his father's grocery store, and tells of adventures with young friends and the elderly men who seemed to live there. This is a read you will definitely enjoy.
