SOUTHERN LIFE

I have read this book so many times, I had to purchase a new one cause I wore out the first copy. The story of three girls in Covington, LA near New Orleans in the 1960's is profound, hilarious, and deeply moving. The author has written only this book and "ALmost Innocent". The book paints a picture of life in southern Louisiana that seems so real. The war in Vietnam and the futility of death...I had almost forgotten how much that war affected us. The section where one of the girls has to lie down in the kitchen and have recipes read to her...but only main dishes. The ones written by single ladies are too sad for her. What a riot. The picture of their lives is clear and gripping.

A sad, beautiful story

The heart of this book is terrific. The dialogue, the description and the passion in language and emotion really distinguish this novel.

You won't be able to put it down or forget it once you do.

Slow Poison is by far one of the best books written, if not the best. Bosworth is a skilled and clever storyteller; she draws you in to the lives of the Cade family and won't let you go. You'll never forget her characters and you'll wish it were much longer when you turn the final pages. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read fiction that makes you laugh, and cry, and think and makes an impact on you soul.

one of my favorite books

After reading Slow Poison, I promptly made it required reading for all of my friends and family--and they all loved it as much as I do. The quirky characters and Bosworth's humor make this a great book whose characters stay with for a long time.

Bosworth is a master. Best book ever written.Must buy

Sheila Bosworth's second novel, Slow Poison, leaves the reader breathless. Rich and evocative, her tale centers around three sisters, their father and Tulane dropout Johnny Killelea in the late 50's and early 60's. Set in New Orleans and Covington, La., Ms. Bosworth knows the ins and outs of this steamy region and its local inhabitants. Her characters are portrayed with humor and grace, Bosworth never fails to keep the reader hanging on. The reader is easily led through the twists and turns of the lives of the Cade sisters. Rory, the narrator, is the middle child. Her keen insights are startling and serve to show Bosworth's rich imagination and clever storytelling. This is an absolute must!! Order as quickly as you can!! You won't be able to put it down!!
