Slocum and Madame Lu are after the same thing: seeking revenge on the same man. The action in this entry into the Slocum series goes cross-country via a train shaped as a Chinese dragon. Everything culminates in October of 1871 in Wisconsin, site of the great Peshtigo fire, which to this date no one knows how it got started. Well, we do now. It was Madame Lu's evil cousin, Moy. Also included is a flashback scene when Slocum was a Confederate major fighting at the Battle of Shiloh. A fictitious general who becomes a traitor is worked into the events. Fairly clever writing. For a Slocum, you do get a fair amount of history worked in and you'll appreciate a good encyclopedia to refer to. Nevertheless, I still found some of the handling of scenes a little far-fetched. But overall, a good read and recommended.
