Book Overview

In any definition of fly fishing, there has to be room to explore and to discover new ways of doing things. For me new knowledge is at the heart and soul of fly fishing. --John Judy, from Slack Line... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Definitely worth the time to read this

This book helps the intermediate fly-fisher move toward a more advanced level, by helping shift the focus from the fly to its presentation. Well-written, it is also an easy read.

Slack Line for more than just us Slackers

Slack Line covers the full range of slack line options on the water and in the air, casting, mends, etc. It is about getting to those hard to reach places and allowing time for the fly to get to the fish in an appetizing way. It's plainly written style provides the reader a true understanding of the importance of the drift and how to reach difficult lies and far out fish. Equally important it dispels the "tight lines" view of fly fishing and encourages the experimentation and joy of variance that is our sport. Granted after years on the water and enough bad "daze" just throwing out line so poorly that I "found" (learned) some of this on my own. But for most folks this title would save time and be a huge benefit. Too often we imagine that fly fishing is about laying out 40-60' casts and 2-3' drifts and bang or that there is some Latin mystique to this activity, but this proves it is not always so. I have been a slacker for a while now, I never knew it was a style until first reading about it in the classic "Trout", but in this volume Judy takes slack lining to a new level. Although there is not the opportunity to use these techniques on every outing, often it is the only solution in many difficult cases and on today's hard pressed waters a real edge for most anglers. This title is a "should read" for the non-traditionalist.
