An incredible glance at the lives of homeless women
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
This book by Loris Hanson Sheets offers an honest and powerful look at the lives of current or previously homeless women. The intimate portrayal of these women makes them more human than mere nameless faces seen on the streets. This book provokes an emotional response or felt kinship with each of these women. For me, this book brought many things into perspective, including the realization that one of these women could be my daughter, mother, sister, friend, or even me. Somewhere in life, obstacles, barriers, or life circumstance were presented to these women in which many never recovered from. This book offered me the chance to reflect and think about my own interactions with the homeless population. Realizing that I myself had often times ignored the homeless on the streets, adding to their feelings of alienation and isolation when a simple "hello" or "good morning" might of made a difference It is my hope that more people will read this book and do more to help homeless women, men and children. Take a chance and be kind and giving, or atleast understanding when you next encounter a homeless person. This book would make a great addition to a seminar or sociology class which deals with social issues. I highly recommend this book!
