Sir Maggie the MIghty Building Christian Character series
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 14 years ago
Each book of The Christian Character series encompasses a specific topic. Some of them are: Thankfulness, Showing love, Forgiveness, Fairness, Helpfulness, Jealousy. this one being about obedience. The books in this series are done in rhyme and have a smooth, easy flow to them that keep the child interested; as well as an abundance of cute, applicable illustrations that convey feeling and emotion. At the end of each story is an applicable Bible verse. My 4 children all loved these books and we read them over and over. I think they really do teach a lesson in a way that the child can identify with. Each child has had all of these conflicts and emotions and can see him/herself in the situation. The books show wonderful conflict resolution. In this book about Maggie Mcbuggins, Maggie's mom send the gallant young knight with the outfit to match to the store to buy bug juice and honey. Just one problem, Mom tells her not to wear her new dress and to go straight to the store. Maggie decides to sneak her good dress along and then buys candy at the candy store instead of the bug juice and honey. To top it all of, she starts feeling sick from all the candy and gets chased by a dog on the way home. Sample from book..."This is my biggest adventure!" thought Maggie, donning a knight suit that looked sort of baggy. "I'll need my best sword and I'll need my best boots, and a shield to block spears if the enemy shoots!" Highy recommend for kids up to about age 8.

The book had some writing in it, but overall was in good condition. I spent more on these books than I had planned but my granddaughter loves these and that made the purchase worthwhile.
Obedience tough subject, story told gracefully
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 14 years ago
Love this book. Condensed it for a church children story told during worship service. Artwork is delightful. Obedience is a tough subject for children (and adults), yet this book kept the interest of everyone, I think, and never gets preachy. Maggie McBuggins, loves adventure play and gets her most exciting adventure when her mother asks her to go to town to get bug juice and honey. When Maggie puts on her best knight costume her mother isn't happy with her clothing choices, her best dress and father's boots, and instructs Maggie to put on clothes that won't trip her up or be a problem if she ruins them. The disobedience and the adventure to town begins. It concludes with a good "surprise ending," which is the book's memory verse Colossians 3:20, "Children obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Surprising because there is no mention of God or Jesus in the body of the story, yet in the end the Lord is why they should obey. Practical because pleasing the Lord maybe a lot easier for a child angry with his parents.
