Aimed at single men and women

Reviewed by Leslie Granier for Reader Views (4/08) As the title indicates, "Single Men Are Like Waffles, Single Women Are Like Spaghetti" is about the many ways in which men and women differ. Men tend to compartmentalize their lives into small boxes (hence the waffle analogy) and focus only on one box at a time. Women's lives, on the other hand, are like cooked spaghetti on a plate. The pieces are intertwined, which symbolizes the amount of multitasking they do. When people learn to understand these inherent differences between the sexes, they can find ways to avoid problems and misconceptions. This book also focuses on helping single people seek serious relationships. It stresses the importance of making specific, realistic, and achievable goals and being honest about what they desire so they will not spend time on relationships that will be doomed from the beginning. The authors provide questions for people to consider to determine if they are ready to start dating again after a difficult or painful breakup. Kinds of dates that will help people learn more about potential spouses are listed. These include co-hosting a party to see how they handle stress and planning issues. Another idea is to go on a long outing with children (such as nieces or nephews). If having a family is one of the goals, this will give insight into how a potential mate relates to children. Examples of free or low-cost dates are given which will allow people to learn more about each other in quiet and stress-free situations. The pros and cons of the different ways of meeting people are discussed. Should someone aggressively seek another individual (i.e. internet dating sites) or passively wait for another person to find them? At the end of each chapter there are humorous lists that relate to the topic of the chapter. There are also discussion questions for small groups to begin conversations about this book. The book, although not overwhelmingly religious in nature, discusses the importance of God's role in relationships and how one's relationship with God is the most important one of all. Although Single Men Are Like Waffles, Single Women Are Like Spaghetti" is aimed at single men and women, all adults could use a refresher course on understanding how men and women differ. It is through the knowledge and acceptance of these differences that relationships will not only grow, but flourish.

Excellent study for singles

This book has a wealth of insight and excellent real-world advice about God's plan for singles. The section on the various types of daters and how to spot them was great! I'd recommend this book for anyone that seeks to understand the other gender and what makes them tick.

Great Book About Relationships.

As a single guy trying to understand the female mentality and in an attempt to make myself a more understanding potential partner, I've read a lot of books on relationships over the years. Most are subpar and contain very little insight. During the past few years, the majority of books on relationships have tried to capitalize on the fame of MEN ARE FROM MARS, WOMEN FROM VENUS. Besides certain political crusades and a few other uncatergorized variables, that book has done more to damage relationships than any other book published in the U.S. in the past decade.SINGLE MEN ARE LIKE WAFFLES, SINGLE WOMEN ARE LIKE SPAGHETTI parodies the title of that famous book, but it isn't anything like it. This book actually contains practical advice that people can use and makes sense. It's great for single people interested in being in a relationship and for those who are already together and considering pursuing marriage. Bill and Pam Farrel are a husband and wife team and their combined insights make this book that much more valuable. The book is written in a logic, homey sort of way without any technical mumble-jumble characteristic of other relationship books. The book also has some great lists that are both hilarious and insightful. In fact, it was the lists that made me buy the book while flipping through the pages at a Christian book store.I had first heard this book recommended by the speaker of a Christian camp I worked at. He gave it his highest approval and recommended all the summer staff read it. I did and am glad to say, he was right. It is one of the best books on relationships I have ever read, especially with a Christian perspective. I highly recommend it, too.

A humorous book that makes sense!

Finally! The mystery of the male and female mismatch is unveiled! The authors explained why guys and girls think differently, using the analogy of waffles and spaghetti. According to the authors, men always think within a box, and they can only be occupied with a box at a time, unlike women who link their thoughts together like spaghetti. My boyfriend and I resolved some of our prior misunderstands through this book! Now I know his lack of concern for me was because he was preoccupied with another thing, and since he couldn't perform multitasking like me, thus he remained preoccupied with his own issue. It's not because he wanted to, but because he could not help it! This book provides a deeper insight to understanding your partner, and is particularly useful for unmarried Christian couples, offering useful biblical advices. I love this book!

Opposites Attract

Sometimes, my girlfriend and I seem to come from opposite ends of the spectrum. This book has helped both of us better understand the opposite sex and the role we play in our relationships. The book provides a humorous spin to all those common gender differences we struggle with.I recommend this book, and I also suggest that you read it with your partner. You'll be able to learn about each other together. Definitely a great help to those relationships that are floundering, or a way to strengthen the bond you share with that special someone.
