A tribute to Mr. Gardella and his daughter

I was given a copy of this book by Mr. Gardella's Daughter. I met her on a little league ball field 3 years ago, as we cheered for our children I told her about my life in the Marine Corps and she told me I had to read her Fathers book. The book was incredible and according to Gardella's daughter 100% true. The book is one of the best I have ever read and is a must read for anyone. Sadly I write this review 2 weeks after the passing of Mr. Gardella's daughter. She passed away at 42 years of age leaving behind her mother, husband and two wonderful children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family, GOD BLESS, Semper Fi

Inside Red China

The only book I've yet come across to document a behind-the-lines Cold War operation inside Communist China. I first became aware of this book after reading tantalising descriptions on the 'Net in various places. After much searching, and waiting, finally obtained an out-of-print copy in mint condition, and it's well worth it for novelty value alone. Gardella tells of a secret raid deep into China against an underground Nuclear Research facility, mowing down scores of Chinese troops, battling tanks, evading fighter aircraft, before fleeing desperately, hunted by the enemy. A truly unique, great read, and no offence intended to the now deceased Gardella or family, but can it really be true?. A motley group of Marines, rather than true Special Forces troops?. Stumbling into an ID card-carrying CIA man deep inside China? (one of the men who helped train the unit?). Defeating overwhelming numbers of enemy troops, for few friendly casualties?. During the height of the Korean War, a caucasian, sneaking through the very centre of Peking in the 50's, and coming close to killing Chairman Mao himself?. Possible American POW/MIA's kept in bamboo cages on Peking Square?.I guess it's so strange it could really be true... Perhaps Gardella's team was a decoy for another, more critical mission, as he himself suspected.Get hold of a copy of this book, in any condition, any way you can, and decide for yourself. Unforgettable.

A truly memorable book

I've read thousands of books over the years, many of which are military history and biography, but few have left such a powerful, lasting impression on me as this book. It's a well written first hand account of a U.S. Marine who was virtually forced, as well as deceived, into becoming part of what was intended by its American training officers to be a suicide commando group tasked with destroying a Chinese atomic bomb facility during the Korean War. The story is so incredible that it almost beggars belief, particularly their betrayal by their training officers. This is definitely a "must read" book, as well as a "must have" book.

blockbuster true story of deceit and intrigue.

A young marine is "volunteered" for a mission in china. The team is betrayed and abandoned. They must and do fight their way across China with the help of the "Dragon Lady". She is leading a group of Chinese freedom fighters. The author even had a chance to kill Mao Tse Tung. The Year is 1950 and our hero even comes across a WWII POW in a bamboo cage in, I believe, Peking. The action is fierce and there is even some romance.

Fight In China

A awsome story about six men drop in china for a mission. In the end only two came out, one stayed in china. This is a story that was written by the one that came out. In this story you meet the Dragon Lady who is in charge of a force of alittle more then 100 that hit and run. You have to read this book!!
