delightful surprise

What a delightful surprise!! I bought it with reserves, never heard of the author, etc. But what a delight! Lejeune has a wonderful sense of humor, the characters were well-developed, a real story line that kept your interest. I laughed out loud over and over, and it leaves you laughing. The book is as clean as they come anymore and I appreciated that. Lynn Kurland writes so well she doesn't bother with sex scenes and this author doesn't have to either. It was a true 'romance', one of the best books I have read in a while!! I am looking forward to Lejeune's next book...maybe Benedict and Serena...? : )

Refreshing & fun read

This is the only book that I've come across, with the leading man not being handsome, but the leading lady even stating "his face belongs in a grotto". It was very entertaining. His lordship knew he wasn't handsome, but was still a matromonial prize and was set out to win her hand, at 1st for revenge. When he was cast aside by her family, his feelings for her changed and hers as well. Lots of mishaps, dead rat & newt stunts and misleading converstations later, the book gets a bit confusing as to who is thinking what, but it is cleverly written and gave me some laughs. I liked the fact this book was different than a lot of other romances out there. It is a keeper & I would recommend it. I hope the author is checking out her reviews and would like to see that she writes another with Cynthia and Sir Benedict as the couple next! Then we can see some more of Lord Swale and Juliet. I wish it wouldn't have ended so soon!

Delightfully fun

Well, this book was simply delightful. I admit to having some trouble with it at first - the characters are hardly standard Regency, the dialogue a bit more stilted, but once I got into the rhythm of the story, and understood how much of it was played for laughs, I really enjoyed it. The plot isn't so original on the surface: a man and woman of the ton meet each other, despise each other immediately, are thrown together constantly, and feelings develop. But the characters ARE unusual, in every way. The man isn't especially bright, certainly isn't handsome, but he has a joie de vivre that energizes every scene he's in. The girl is as high-spirited as he, and just as impulsive, making for some hilarious scenes. Misunderstandings abound, but are quickly solved and don't go on for 100 pages. The two understand each other very well immediately, and are much more alike than they could ever guess. This was a very entertaining book.

Lovely!

I've always been partial to historical romances, so I guess I'm a little biased. I don't want to ruin the story for you, but the leading man is described as rather ugly with a wild uncontrolled temper. I thought it was a rather neat twist. Usually when they say a man isn't attractive in the conventional way, he's somehow alluring in another. This guy has almost nothing to recomend himself, and the only reason he becomes interested in the 'lady' of the piece at first is because she has a lovely nose. :-) It's really very funny. I laughed a lot! 5 stars!
