A death that can't be forgotten

Silverhill is a mansion, a place haunted by bad memories, forgotten nightmares and damaged lives. Mallie Rice, who has a scarred face and scarred past, returns to bury her dead mother. Mallie's family, those that reside at Silverhill are haunted, afraid and controlled by the matriarch, Mallie's grandmother, a woman who has no desire to have her daughter--Mallie's dead mother brought back--or see Mallie ever again. The death of her grandmother's husband so many years ago still hangs over the house, and that death won't be forgotten, and scars the lives of all. Phyllis Whitney has wrought a tightly constructed story filled with deception, misunderstanding and suspicion. The read is fast and the conclusion works. This is the first novel I've read by her and I look forward to others.

Silverhill

This was a book that I enjoyed very much. I couldn't put it down. The way everyone is so cold to Mallie, except for Dr. Martin, in which she finds the strength to stay and accomplish what she has come to do in favor of her dead mother, really made me think of the courage of this girl when she was practically all alone. The ending is great because who would of have thought those things would actually fall into place. I can't say more about this book. You'll just have to read it to find out. I recommend this book to all teenage and adult readers who are fans of mystery and romance.

pretty good overall

What made this book stand out was its likeable heroine, one without the flawless beauty one usually finds in romances. A beautiful setting and a charming little boy makes this book worthwhile.
