a brilliantly told, highly original imagining of the world of Avalon

Let us continue the story of the birth of Camelot.... Breena is a Seer, called by Myrrdin to travel forward in time and assist him in his dream of finding a true leader of the people. Breena is the only Druid with the power and magic Myrrdin needs to save Lady Igraine and ensure the birth of the King destined to save England. Rhys is a Druid minstrel tasked with the duty of finding other people with the gifts of Druidry to bring them to Avalon for training. It is only through Rhys's gift of seeing potential in others they can ensure the continuation of the Druid ways. When he follows Breena into the future to rescue her, he finds that the only thing Breena needs is his heart. In the deep Silver Silence they find a love to stand the test of time. I love Joy Nash's work and I like to read different variations of the legend of King Arthur, so it was a given I'd enjoy Silver Silence. Joy works some fantastic twists into the story, leading us down various trails, only for us to find that we were going the wrong direction, shocking us with how several storylines play out in the end. These surprises make for an even more compelling tale, keeping us turning the pages long into the night, eager to see what will happen next. I shivered at how well Joy portrays the sense of impending doom hovering in the air should Breena fail in her mission to save Igraine... and Myrrdin too? Breena and Rhys have been present in each of the preceding books in the Druids of Avalon series and I have come to adore both of them, even while I wanted to smack Rhys for stubbornly denying his deep affection for Breena. We've known from the beginning these two were destined to be together and finally we get the resolution of their love story. Breena and Rhys are a perfect match, even so far as to have Druid gifts that work so well together. The secondary love stories we find here... that of the great Myrrdin and his lady love and of Uther and Igraine, soul mates meant to become the parents of the greatest king England has ever known... add to the story and are every bit as enjoyable as the primary romance of Breena and Rhys. Joy Nash brings us a brilliantly told, highly original imagining of the world of Avalon and the birth of the legend of King Arthur in Silver Silence. Rhys the Druid seeks surviving Druids to bring them home to Avalon. Breena the seer loves Rhys, but knows it must remain unrequited as he is forbidden to love any female. She travels to a holy shrine to pray for divine guidance as Rhys has been away for almost a year; which is something he has never done in his decade and a half time traveling mission. Breena meets Myrddin, who asks her to save Igraine in the Lost lands. Tracking Breena, Rhys travels into the future to find her and bring her home. Breena discovers a scheme to harm Igraine; Rhys, who has caught up to her, acquiesces to assist her in reuniting the woman with her beloved. Although he knows the price, Rhys can no longer deny his love for Breena. Returning to the pre-Camelot Druid realm of THE GRAIL KING and DEEP MAGIC, Joy Nash provides a fantastic romantic fantasy as the hero continues his quest to save the Arthurian future. Breena and Rhys are strong protagonists working the mists of time to save those who they believe should dwell in Avalon while also struggling with love, a forbidden emotion for the hero.
