Shreck On Shrek: The Complete Guide

Shrek: The Complete Guide I really liked this book! It was a great look at the various characters & plot lines that led us on the great ogre epics of Shrek, Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third. This book is mostly a few animation & design notes (without being too confusing for those of us who aren't animation experts) coupled with a fresh look at all our Shrek favorites. My only disappointment here was that all the favorite ( & not so favorite) characters are here, except for the Shrek babies! I'd be more curious about those guys than any of the others. Maybe the babies were left out to avoid spoiling the surprise, but the death of Fiona's father and Arti and plenty of other secrets of Shrek 3 are mentioned. But the babies are only announced with Fiona being pregnant. Kids from two to twelve loved it also, but it's actually going to be a gift to my dad... so I reccomend it for any age. A great book!

The Essential Guide to Shrek

Once upon a time... there was a large green ogre who became a great hero... a small donkey who became his noble steed...and a beautiful princess who kept a mysterious secret. If you want to see a cross-section view of Shrek's crooked wooden shack built into a rotten old tree stump or you are interested in the romance between a smooth-talking donkey and his fire-breathing dragon girlfriend, then you might enjoy the additional information about the Shrek Movies. The colors used in this book are pretty amazing. You almost think you could feel the fur on the donkey or feel the texture in Fiona's embroidered royal dress. Even the green fabric looks velvety. I was quite impressed with this aspect alone. There is also a good helping of humor throughout, like when talking about the gingerbread man who is actually one tough cookie. He's wholesome and true - just what you'd expect from a cookie made from organic flour. ~pg. 19 Or when speaking of the castle: This stylishly dilapidated, sinister castle is conveniently located on a crumbling pinnacle of rock in a sea of molten lava, just three day's quest from the nearest shopping mall. Each section also conveys a certain mood. The page about The Poison Apple is somber, dark and has white text, while the pages covered with "the front page" of the Daily Duloc stands out and is also filled with fairy-tale humor and advertisements for magic beans. ~The Rebecca Review
