This story begins in Dover Valley, where Billy and Jenny have just moved in. As their friends tell about the Quarry gang, they become more aware of the real place they live. As they soon learn, the Apple Tree School House for retarded children isn't what it seems. The school actually had ties to the gang. After the visit, Billy and Jenny try to find out who killed the gang leader and where all the money was that the gang had stolen. Billy and Jenny get clues from the people of Dover Valley and use them to solve the mystery. They learn about how members of the Quarry gang were killed, how Kurt Heineken was arrested, and how the leader of the gang escaped. After many years, he was found dead and the search for his assailant began. After investigating and old graveyard, many of the mysteries in the plot came to life. The epic tale of murder and money will keep any reader happy. I liked this book because of the descriptive words, compelling plot, and good foreshadowing. This book stacked up to other mysteries very well and can be a good alternative from The Goosebumps series. An interesting plot and neat organization add to this already amazing book. Details and realism make the reader truly become the character. Also, I would recommend this book for all middle school and high school reading levels and for anyone liking for a thrilling mystery.
