I READ THIS BOOK WELL OVER 10 YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS FIRST OUT. IT IS AN EXCELLENT ACCOUNT OF GROWING UP IN EAST NEW YORK BROOKLYN AND BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES AND MENTAL PICTURES OF MY OLD NEIGHBORHOOD. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY FOR ANYONE WHO GREW UP THERE OR IF YOU ARE JUST INTERESTED IN WHAT A TYPICAL NYC ETHNIC NEIGHBORHOOD WAS LIKE IN THE 50'S & 60'S. I FOUND THE BOOK IN MY PUBLIC LIBRARY IN L.I.
The best book I've ever read.

Wonderful, endearing tale of a boy's summer in Brooklyn in the 1960's. Authentic, witty dialogue, characters, and settings make it exciting - and the action is as real as "Taxi Driver" or "Goodfellas". A highly dramatic story, left me wishing it'd never end. If this book is ever printed again, it's well worth reading.
